Five black 4K cameras on a 16-channel recorder: a kit for a house or business that wants strong detail now and the option of more cameras later. The recorder is the Hikvision iDS-7216HUHI-M2/XT with two drive bays, one filled by a 4TB drive.
Each camera is an 8MP 4K ColorVu audio turret in black. It has a 2.8mm fixed lens, up to 25m of white light for a bright night picture, 3D DNR noise reduction, a built-in microphone and an IP67 rating.
The recorder encodes 4K/8MP at 8fps and 3K/5MP at 12fps, supports HDTVI, AHD, CVI, CVBS and IP inputs and has AcuSense for human and vehicle detection.
You also get five 20m RG59 BNC and DC leads, a 12V 5A power supply with a built-in 8-way splitter and a 1.5m HDMI cable. Three spare power outlets and eleven free channels give some room to expand. Add a monitor of your own.
Black housings blend into dark soffits and door frames. Mount the cameras, run each lead back to the recorder, and plug the BNC ends into channels 1 to 5. Put a name on each channel in the recorder menu, set a password and the clock, then check the night picture and the sound on every camera before you finish.

The 5 cameras in the box use 5 of the 16 channels on the recorder. So there are 11 channels left over if you want more cameras later.
Adding cameras later? First make sure the recorder handles their resolution and has enough recording bandwidth, and that a power or PoE port is free for each one.
Around 18 days of footage
There is 4TB of storage in the box.
Recording around the clock in H.265, that holds roughly 18 days of footage. Our sum allows 1 Mbps for each camera of 2MP or less, 2 Mbps for each one above that up to 5MP, and 4 Mbps for each one sharper than 5MP, added together when the cameras are not all the same model. Your own settings, how busy each view is and how much of the drive is usable all change the true number. With motion-only recording, it comes down to how often something moves in view.
Coax (HD analogue) system

First, look over the box list: it names the power supplies, cables and mounting parts included. Then plan where each camera goes and how long each cable needs to be, because knowing how many cameras you have does not tell you what they will cover. At every spot, check what the lens can see, the lighting, and how exposed the camera will be to the weather.
