CCTV for farms
A farm is a spread of buildings, not one. The farmyard, the gate, the fuel tank, the machinery store and the barns each need a view, and the distance between them decides what cabling you can use. Choose a complete Hikvision kit large enough for the views you list. We supply the kit; you or your installer fits it.

Not sure how many cameras you need?
Answer three questions and the finder narrows the range to systems that fit your site.
What do you want to keep an eye on?
Your answer only sets how many cameras we begin with. You can change it later on.
1 other answer here has no kit to match, so we have left it out. You can still build that yourself in the kit builder.
A farm is spread out. Gates, the yard, the machinery shed and the feed store can all sit a long way from the house, and everything outside gets rain, mud and dust. A kit for this kind of site needs cameras made for the weather and a recorder that can take more of them as the list of places to watch grows.
The kit we would start from is the Hikvision 16-channel 4MP kit with eight cameras and a 2TB drive. It pairs a DS-7616NXI-K2/16P(E) PoE recorder with eight DS-2CD2T47G2H-LISU/SL bullet cameras. Each camera is 4MP, has an IP67 metal housing and is powered over the same network cable that carries its picture, so there is no power socket to find at the far end of a barn. The cameras also have a built-in microphone, audio in/out and siren.
Eight cameras on a sixteen-channel recorder leaves eight channels free. That is the point of choosing it for a farm: you can begin with the gate, yard, workshop and the doors of the main buildings, then extend later. New cameras come from IP cameras, and a PoE switch lets several cameras in one outbuilding share a single cable back to the recorder.
What to check before you order
- Cable distance. Network cable has a maximum run, so measure the route from each building to where the recorder will sit, not the straight line.
- Recorder location. Put it indoors and out of sight, somewhere dry that you can reach easily.
- Drive size. The kit includes a 2TB drive. More cameras and longer recording mean more storage.
If a camera could see a public footpath or a neighbour's land, read the ICO's guidance for organisations first. To compare other sets, see all Hikvision CCTV kits, or PoE kits if you want the same cabling for every camera.
CCTV for farms — common questions
How many cameras does a farm need?
Make a list of the places to cover: gates, yard, fuel, machinery store, tool store and barns. Eight cameras suit a small farm, and a larger holding with many buildings may need sixteen.
Coax or network cable for outbuildings?
Coax suits a Turbo HD kit and carries a picture a long way from the recorder. A network (IP) kit needs a network cable to each camera, limited in length. Plan the longest run first.
