A neat starting kit for a front and back door, a shop entrance or a small yard. It brings two Hikvision DS-2CD1053G0-IUF bullet cameras, a 4-channel PoE recorder and a 2TB hard drive already installed.
The cameras are 5MP (2560 × 1920) with a fixed 2.8mm wide-angle lens. EXIR 2.0 infrared lights the scene up to 30 metres in darkness, the built-in microphone records sound with the picture, and the IP67 housing works outdoors. Each camera runs from PoE (802.3af), so one network cable carries power and video.
The Hikvision DS-7604NXI-K1/4P recorder has four PoE ports, takes IP cameras up to 12MP, and uses AcuSense to separate people and vehicles from other movement. It outputs 4K over HDMI.
In the box: the recorder, two cameras, two 20m Cat6 patch cables and a 1.5m HDMI lead. You need a monitor and fixings. Mount each camera, run its cable to a PoE port, plug in the monitor and set the recording schedule.
Bullet cameras are easy to aim, and the built-in microphone means a doorstep conversation is recorded as well as seen, which helps when you review footage later.
Two ports are left spare, so two more cameras can be added later without a switch. Compare larger sets in the CCTV kits.

Recording around the clock in H.265, that holds roughly 46 days of footage. Our sum allows 1 Mbps for each camera of 2MP or less, 2 Mbps for each one above that up to 5MP, and 4 Mbps for each one sharper than 5MP, added together when the cameras are not all the same model. Your own settings, how busy each view is and how much of the drive is usable all change the true number. With motion-only recording, it comes down to how often something moves in view.

One cable to each camera brings it power and picture.
First, look over the box list: it names the power supplies, cables and mounting parts included. Then plan where each camera goes and how long each cable needs to be, because knowing how many cameras you have does not tell you what they will cover. At every spot, check what the lens can see, the lighting, and how exposed the camera will be to the weather.
