Adding cameras later? First make sure the recorder handles their resolution and has enough recording bandwidth, and that a power or PoE port is free for each one.

You can open the builder with this kit already loaded, then swap the cameras, pick a bigger drive or choose longer cables. It checks each change for you, so everything you end up with will work together.

The iDS-7208HQHI-M1/XT recorder, one 5 MP ColorVu audio fixed turret camera, one 20m RG59 BNC video and power lead, a 12V 1A power supply, a 1.5m HDMI cable and the 4TB hard drive, already fitted.
You need a monitor or TV with an HDMI input to see the picture. The kit includes a 1.5m HDMI cable to connect it to the recorder.

This Hikvision kit pairs an 8-channel iDS-7208HQHI-M1/XT recorder with one 5 MP ColorVu audio fixed turret camera. A 4TB hard drive is already fitted, so the recorder is ready to record once it is wired up. The camera connects by coax: its 20m RG59 BNC lead carries video and DC power together, so there is no network cable to run.
In the box: the iDS-7208HQHI-M1/XT recorder, a 5 MP 1U H.265 AcuSense model; one 5 MP ColorVu audio fixed turret camera; one 20m RG59 BNC video and power lead; a 12V 1A power supply; a 1.5m HDMI cable; and the 4TB drive. You bring a monitor or TV with an HDMI input, and a way to fix each camera in place.
Before you order, measure the run from the camera to the recorder: the lead is 20m long. Plan a mains socket and a shelf or cabinet for the recorder. The kit does not include a monitor. It is a coax kit, so cameras and recorder talk over the BNC leads, not network cable.

Recording around the clock in H.265, that holds roughly 185 days of footage. Our sum allows 1 Mbps for each camera of 2MP or less, 2 Mbps for each one above that up to 5MP, and 4 Mbps for each one sharper than 5MP, added together when the cameras are not all the same model. Your own settings, how busy each view is and how much of the drive is usable all change the true number. With motion-only recording, it comes down to how often something moves in view.
Coax (HD analogue) system
Plugs into the coax cable already in your walls.
First, look over the box list: it names the power supplies, cables and mounting parts included. Then plan where each camera goes and how long each cable needs to be, because knowing how many cameras you have does not tell you what they will cover. At every spot, check what the lens can see, the lighting, and how exposed the camera will be to the weather.
