A network (IP) camera.

Not sure which recorder you have? A DVR has a row of round twist-on (BNC) camera sockets on the back; an NVR has none.

The Hikvision DS-2CD2H83G0-IZS is an 8MP PoE turret camera with a motorised varifocal lens. Zoom and focus are set remotely, so you can fine-tune the view after the camera is on the wall, which helps when the spot you need to cover is long or awkward to judge from the ground.
The 2.8–12mm lens lets you choose between a wide view and a narrower, longer one. The sensor records at 3840 × 2160. Infrared night vision reaches up to 30m, and 120 dB true Wide Dynamic Range helps with strong backlight.
The camera supports line crossing, intrusion detection and face detection. A microSD slot takes cards up to 128GB, and H.265+ compression keeps storage use down.
The metal housing is IP67 weatherproof and IK10 vandal resistant, so it suits exposed spots. It is powered over Ethernet (IEEE 802.3af).
Because the lens range is wide, one model can cover very different spots. Set it wide to watch a whole yard, or zoom in on a gate or a doorway further away. Check the recorder or switch has a free PoE port at the cable end.
