If you want a Hikvision 4K kit, pick a PoE kit when you can run network cable to each camera, and a coax kit when good coax runs are already in place or are easier to pull. Both types come as a single box with the recorder, the cameras and a hard drive already fitted, so you do not have to match the parts yourself. The 4K cameras here are 8MP, and the recorders in the coax kits are listed as 8 MP models too.

The 4-channel PoE kit with four DS-2CD1383G2-LIUF/SL cameras is a good place to start for a house, a shop or a yard with a handful of spots to cover. The 16-channel kits suit larger sites, and the 16-channel PoE recorder can also be bought with fewer cameras fitted, so there is room to add more later.
Coax or PoE
A PoE kit connects each camera to the recorder with one network cable, which carries both power and picture. The kit comes with a Cat6/Cat5e lead for each camera and an HDMI cable for the monitor. Because the recorder has PoE ports, there is no separate power supply for the cameras.
A coax kit uses BNC video cable with a DC power lead at the camera end. Each kit includes 20m RG59 cables with a power lead for every camera, plus a power supply with a splitter that feeds all the cameras: a 12V 3A four-way supply in the 4-channel kits, and two 12V 5A eight-way supplies in the 16-channel kit. That means a mains socket near the recorder, and cable that runs from each camera back to it. The coax recorders are 8 MP Hikvision AcuSense DVRs.
Choose by what is already in the walls. Existing coax can often be reused with a coax kit, while new cable runs are usually neater with network cable. If you are not sure what is in place, check the cable type at both ends before you order.
What to check at home
- Cable run: measure from each camera position to the recorder, following the route the cable will take rather than a straight line. The coax kits include 20m leads, so a longer run needs a longer cable.
- Recorder position: put it somewhere dry and ventilated, near a mains socket and a network connection if you want remote viewing. A PoE recorder also needs to be within cable reach of every camera.
- Hard drive: each kit has the drive fitted. Larger kits come with more storage, from 1TB with four cameras to 4TB with sixteen.
- Camera count: count the doors, gates and corners you need to cover, and choose a kit with enough channels for them.
Cable length and voltage drop matter more on long PoE runs: the PoE voltage drop calculator helps you check a run before you buy. Full specifications for the recorders and cameras are in the Hikvision datasheets for each model number listed above.
