The 4 cameras in the box use 4 of the 8 channels on the recorder. So there are 4 channels left over if you want more cameras later.
Adding cameras later? First make sure the recorder handles their resolution and has enough recording bandwidth, and that a power or PoE port is free for each one.
Your choice
You can open the builder with this kit already loaded, then swap the cameras, pick a bigger drive or choose longer cables. It checks each change for you, so everything you end up with will work together.

For a site that needs four cameras now and room to grow. An 8-channel Hikvision PoE recorder with a 2TB drive already fitted comes with four UK-CI-3K-G1 turret cameras, so half of its ports stay free.
The cameras are UK-CI-3K-G1 turrets, 5MP (3072 × 1728) with a fixed 2.8mm lens and a 98° view. Hybrid infrared and white light reaches 30 metres, a microphone and speaker allow two-way audio, and a microSD slot takes cards up to 512GB. The housing is IP67 rated. Each runs from PoE (802.3af), so one network cable carries power and video.
The DS-7608NXI-K1/8P recorder has eight PoE ports (802.3af/at), takes IP cameras up to 12MP and uses AcuSense to tell people and vehicles from other movement. It has a 4K HDMI output and one SATA bay for drives up to 10TB.
In the box: the recorder with a 2TB hard drive installed, four turret cameras, four 20m Cat6 patch cables and a 1.5m HDMI lead. You need a monitor and fixings. Mount each camera, run its cable to a PoE port, plug in the monitor and set the recording schedule.

Around 23 days of footage
There is 2TB of storage in the box.
Recording around the clock in H.265, that holds roughly 23 days of footage. Our sum allows 1 Mbps for each camera of 2MP or less, 2 Mbps for each one above that up to 5MP, and 4 Mbps for each one sharper than 5MP, added together when the cameras are not all the same model. Your own settings, how busy each view is and how much of the drive is usable all change the true number. With motion-only recording, it comes down to how often something moves in view.

One cable to each camera brings it power and picture.
First, look over the box list: it names the power supplies, cables and mounting parts included. Then plan where each camera goes and how long each cable needs to be, because knowing how many cameras you have does not tell you what they will cover. At every spot, check what the lens can see, the lighting, and how exposed the camera will be to the weather.
