The 4 cameras in the box use 4 of the 8 channels on the recorder. So there are 4 channels left over if you want more cameras later.
Adding cameras later? First make sure the recorder handles their resolution and has enough recording bandwidth, and that a power or PoE port is free for each one.
Your choice
You can open the builder with this kit already loaded, then swap the cameras, pick a bigger drive or choose longer cables. It checks each change for you, so everything you end up with will work together.

This kit uses Hikvision's DS-2CD2387G3-LIS2UY/SL, an 8MP turret camera with a large 1/1.8" sensor and an F1.0 lens that keeps colour in dim light. Four are paired with an 8-channel PoE recorder, so a shop, yard or house gets full coverage with space to grow.
Each camera has a fixed 2.8mm lens, Smart Hybrid Light with infrared and white light up to 30 metres, and human and vehicle detection. Dual microphones and a speaker allow two-way audio, and a strobe light and audible alarm can deter someone on site. The metal housing is anti-corrosion and IP67, and a microSD slot takes up to 512GB.
The recorder, a Hikvision DS-7608NXI-K1/8P, has eight PoE ports, so every camera needs a single network cable. It takes up to 80 Mbps incoming and cameras up to 12MP, and a 2TB hard drive is already fitted.
In the box: the NVR, four cameras, four 20m Cat6 patch cables and a 1.5m HDMI lead. Supply a monitor and fixings. Four PoE ports remain free for more cameras.
Colour picture at night helps with details like clothing or a vehicle colour, which infrared alone cannot show.

There is 2TB of storage in the box.
Recording around the clock in H.265, that holds roughly 11 days of footage. Our sum allows 1 Mbps for each camera of 2MP or less, 2 Mbps for each one above that up to 5MP, and 4 Mbps for each one sharper than 5MP, added together when the cameras are not all the same model. Your own settings, how busy each view is and how much of the drive is usable all change the true number. With motion-only recording, it comes down to how often something moves in view.

First, look over the box list: it names the power supplies, cables and mounting parts included. Then plan where each camera goes and how long each cable needs to be, because knowing how many cameras you have does not tell you what they will cover. At every spot, check what the lens can see, the lighting, and how exposed the camera will be to the weather.
