A network recorder (NVR)
A network (IP) camera.

Not sure which recorder you have? A DVR has a row of round twist-on (BNC) camera sockets on the back; an NVR has none.

The Hikvision DS-2CD2T87G2H-LISU/SL is an 8MP PoE bullet camera for covering a longer stretch of ground, such as a garden, a side of the house or a yard. The bullet shape points a long way in one direction, and the Smart Hybrid Light (infrared plus white light) reaches up to 60m.
It records at 3840 × 2160 from a 1/1.8" progressive scan sensor. The fixed 2.8mm F1.0 lens has a 105.1° horizontal field of view, and ColorVu helps keep colour in low light.
AcuSense human and vehicle detection helps the camera tell people and vehicles from other movement. When it sees one it can flash a strobe and sound an audible alarm. A built-in microphone and speaker allow two-way audio, and a microSD slot supports cards up to 512GB.
The metal housing is IP67 weatherproof and the camera is powered over Ethernet, so a single network cable does the whole job. If the spot is far from your switch, a PoE extender can help reach it; see our PoE extenders.
