Strip a bare wire, push it into the terminal and you have an RCA female socket, with no soldering and no special tools. The terminal is a press-fit design that holds the wire firmly.
Any lead ending in an RCA male plug can then be connected, which helps when adding a microphone to a recorder's audio input or extending an audio lead.
